  Although two people in my household review the USPS mail daily, an MCOT representative just told me that they had made several attempts to contact us about an account, including USPS mail. This is an unadulterated LIE, because neither of us have seen any mail from MCOT in about two years. Instead of properly contacting us, they filed a lawsuit, WITHOUT ADVANCE NOTICE!!!! HOW CAN I PAY THEM IF WE HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED BY HVMC BILLING AND/OR MCOT THAT WE OWE EITHER OF THEM ANYTHING?? In my opinion, Holston Valley Medical Center utilizes MCOT too much. I don't recall the HVMC billing department doing a competent job in sending the patient proper and adequate, MONTHLY statements to tell the patient the amount due. Without reasonable reminders, how does one know whether they owe anything, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE ARE TOLD THAT THE CHARGES ARE STILL OUT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY? On multiple occasions, the HVMC billing department has turned accounts over to MCOT without giving the patient advance notice. To the best of my memory and knowledge, MCOT is equally incompetent and inept at giving patients notification, nor monthly statements. In my most recent experience, I didn't even know that an account had been turned over to MCOT for collections and the only way I found out was with a threatening letter from MCOT, with a notice that a TRIAL DATE had already been scheduled. To the best of my memory, they didn't even notify me that they had an account on me. MOST IMPORTANTLY, AN APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL AID HAD BEEN FILED IN NOVEMBER, 2016, AND REFILED IN JANUARY, 2017. I WAS TOLD THAT THE LOW INCOME EASILY MET THE CRITERIA TO RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID OR TO HAVE THE ACCOUNT EXPUNGED. MCOT, you are unable to scare nor intimidate me one miniscule iota. I SCOFFED at your puny attempt to intimidate me. The laws are in my favor because of the circumstances. In my opinion, both you and the HVMC billing office have a lot of room for improvement, both professionally and personally. I intend to speak with HVMC Administration, the HVMC billing office, the financial aid office, and... Oh yes, most definitely, an attorney.
